Opening Ceremonies

Location

The opening ceremonies for the 2010 Ontario ParaSport Winter Games will be held at:

  • The Kingston Military Community Centre
  • 11 Duty Drive

Kingston Military Community Sports Centre

From Holiday Inn

  • Exit the Holiday Inn parking lot onto Princess Street
  • Turn immediately right onto Ontario St. Drive over the LaSalle Causeway bridge
  • Turn left at the traffic light past the bridge on Duty Drive
  • The entrance to the Kingston Military Community Centre is on the left

From East 401 (Ottawa/Montreal)

  • Take exit #623 Hwy 15
  • Turn south/left on Hwy 15, travel 5 minutes until Hwy 15 ends at Hwy 2
  • Turn right on Hwy 2, Sports Centre is on your right at the bottom of the hill
  • Turn right onto Duty Drive to enter complex 

 From West 401 (Toronto)

  • Take exit #617 Division Street
  • Turn south/right on Division Street and travel 5 minutes to Queen Street
  • Turn left on Queen Street to Ontario Street
  • Turn left on Ontario Street, travel across the causeway and bridge, complex is on your left
  • Turn left onto Duty Drive to enter complex

 

Script for Opening ceremonies

19:30 hrs. - Athletes and guests begin to arrive at the Kingston Military Community Sport Centre for the Opening Ceremonies

20:00 hrs.

  • The MC welcomes VIP’s and guests to the 2010 Ontario ParaSport Winter Games in Kingston, Ontario.
  • The MC announces His Honour’s arrival with the following:
    Ladies and Gentleman, Mesdames et Messieurs, at this time, please rise and join me in welcoming the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honourable David C. Onley, and her Honour, Mrs. Ruth Ann Onley, accompanied by Ms. Janice Martin and Mr. Brian McLean, and please remain standing for the playing of the Vice-Regal Salute.

MC leads applause

20:05 hrs. - The MC announces the 2010 Ontario ParaSport Winter Games Athletes March which will be headed by a colour guard from CFB Kingston and lead by piper.

20:12 hrs. - The MC calls for the playing of the National Anthem that will be sung by ParaAthlete Jenna Lambert.

20:15 hrs. - The Master of Ceremonies invites Jane Chartrand, an Algonquin Elder and Nokomis (Grandmother) to perform a prayer or smudging.

20:18 hrs. - The Master of Ceremonies thanks Jane Chartrand and introduces His Honour. David C. Onley to speak.

20:21 hrs. - The Master of Ceremonies thanks His Honour and introduces the Honourable Margaret Best to speak.

20:21 hrs. - The Master of Ceremonies thanks Minister Best and introduces the Honourable John Gerretsen to speak

20:21 hrs. - The Master of Ceremonies thanks Minister Gerretsen and invites Councilor Mark Gerretsen to speak.

20:24 hrs. - The Master of Ceremonies thanks Councilor Gerretsen and invites Colonel Rick Fawcett, Base Commander of Canadian Forces Base Kingston to speak

20:27 hrs. - The Master of Ceremonies thanks Colonel Fawcett and invites Blair McIntosh, Director of Games for Sport Alliance Ontario to speak.

20:30 hrs. - The Master of Ceremonies thanks Blair McIntosh and invites Cathy Vincelli, CEO of ParaSport Ontario to speak.

20:33 hrs. - The Master of Ceremonies thanks Cathy Vincelli and calls upon John Munro to speak.

20:35 hrs. - The MC calls upon Nik Tolgyesi, Para-swimmer to read the Athlete’s Oath in English and Harley Bolton, Para-swimmer to read the Athlete’s Oath in French.

20:38 hrs. - The Master of Ceremonies thanks the athletes and invites Teri Bolton, swim official to read the Officials Oath in English and French.

20:39 hrs. - The Master of Ceremonies calls for the lighting of the ParaSport Games Torch.
